Many in the sailing community think the phrase For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is the origin for the word fuck. It was thought to have been an acronym used on charge sheet when caught in the act. Regrettably, it’s not. It’s been around in Britain since at least the 1300’s and is most likely German in origin. Indeed Fucker is still a proud surname in Germany today. Acronyms are very much a 20th century invention.
